Draft Review

Last week I participated in my main money league keeper draft. It's a league I run at work and have won twice in the 6 years we've done it, including last year. It's a 2 player keeper league where you lose the draft pick in the round the player was selected. I had the 12th pick in the first round and was keeping Michael Turner in the 9th round and Brandon Marshall in the 6th round. I thought I'd outline my draft strategy, let you know how I did in the draft, as well as asking for suggestions for my team name.

Going into the draft with an unproven RB and a potential WR stud who, at the time, wasn't going to play in weeks 1-3, I knew I had to get some stability early and not take too many chances right away. Some of the potential 1st rounders that were being kept were, Adrian Peterson, Marion Barber, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Randy Moss, Marshawn Lynch, and Clinton Portis. I knew RBs would fly off the board, so I had a couple of choices.

I knew that I would be able to get a top 6 WR with one of my two picks. So, the choice came down to what to do with my other pick. I could take the best RB available and have a Thomas Jones, Reggie Bush or even a Brandon Jacobs as my #1 RB. With the glut of similarly ranked RBs this year that would be available later, I decided to go in a different direction.

I picked Drew Brees (ahead of Peyton Manning) and Marques Colston for my 1st and 2nd picks. Risky? Yes. Huge upside? Yes. I then was able to land Edgerrin James in round 3 along with Calvin Johnson in round 4. I then took Ricky Williams (ahead of Ronnie Brown) in round 5. Here's how the rest of my team looks and you can weigh in on what you think. Feel free to comment, good or bad. I'm also looking for some team name options too. Keep them clean please.

QB (start 1) - Brees, Anderson
RB (start 2) - Turner, James, Williams, Rice, Hall, Thomas
WR (start 3) - Colston, Calvin Johnson, Marshall, Galloway, Morgan
TE (start 1) - Scheffler
K (start 1) - Biranos
D (start 1) - BUF

Thanks and feel free to comment.

Jacobs was tough last night...you could have had him. Instead, looks like you're got a RBBC. How's that for a team name? Rob's RBBC.

When you make your first two picks out of New Orleans, nothing will be a Brees. That's hurricane country, man. Better hope Colston can carry you through it.

Thanks Matt. I could have had Parker or Bush too, but Turner and James look pretty good.
